Epiphany, the realization that you are worth it.

It’s no news that I’m a sucker for BTS, to a lot of people, it’s because of their looks, those seven boys from Korea, I’ve heard different kind of things about them, but funny thing is that didn’t stop me from loving them, I knew what I wanted, what I was gaining from loving them.

When people hear BTS, the first thing that comes to their mind is, those Chinese boys, those Korean boys, those guys who use makeup, they can’t sing, they can’t do anything. Sigh!!! I got tired of defending them, and I said to myself, anyone who wants to love BTS should, BTS aren’t begging you to love them, all they want is for you to love yourself.

One of my go to songs is Epiphany, Jin declares to the world that he has finally come to terms with himself. He may not be as attractive as he wishes, but who cares? He is who he is, and that is enough. The first time I listened to Epiphany, the lyrics that stuck out to me the most was when Jin went, “I’m the one I should love in this world.” The word should shift something inside of me.

To live in a world where we are reminded to be kind to one another, to love as fiercely as we can, how many of us are told to love who we truly are?

How many of us have been told that it is critical that we do so? Every day, we wake up and drag our bodies from day to day, night to night, room to room, just to exist. How many of us have a true understanding of who we are? How many of us treat ourselves with the same tenderness and love that we show to the people we love?

(흔들리고 두려워도 앞으로 걸어가)

(Even if you get disturbed and feel afraid, walk forward)

(폭풍 속에 숨겨뒀던 진짜 너와 만나)

(Meet your true self that you hid inside the storm)

(왜 난 이렇게 소중한 날 숨겨두고 싶었는지)

(Why did I want to hide my precious self)

( 뭐가 그리 두려워 내 진짜 모습을 숨겼는지)

(What made me so afraid that I hid my true self)

A closer examination of the lyrics reveals that Epiphany was a statement of love for oneself. It may serve as a reminder to some to take care of themselves, to accept the “ugly,” and to remind ourselves that we aren’t perfect — jagged, uneven, and scarred. Why is it so vital to do more than just survive, according to Epiphany?

The lyrics to that song always makes me cry. It’s a reassurance to myself that no matter what I should put myself first, I matter first before anyone else, I should love myself first, and not seek validation from anyone . Seok jin, I hope you know your song healed a lot of Armys during the times we struggled. Each time I listen to Epiphany, I always hold back tears for realizing how tired I am, either from work , school, society , my problems or life in general that I couldn’t handle them myself, the past few weeks have been crazy for me, I’ve cried my eyes out cause I couldn’t go on, it didn’t get better cause this same month is the month I lost my dad, each time I close my eyes, it doesn’t get better. Epiphany is a wonderful song about self love , it bears a specific message for people who are suffering or dealing with depression, or other related problems.

I personally relate to the song so much, words like “ I’m the one I should love the most ‘’ helped me realize that I’m worth it, I’m worth being loved by myself more than anyone else. We all go through bad moments and we sometimes forget we matter, we seek validation from people, we tend to look for love from other people without even loving ourselves, BTS keeps reminding us to love ourselves , Epiphany is a piece that helps people find hope in the darkest part.

When I get stressed , this is one of the songs I go to feel relaxed. It’s like there is a hyung who can protect me at all cost , a hyung who I haven’t met but wants the best for me , a hyung who protects me with their song at all cost . Epiphany gives me goosebumps, his voice directly touches my heart, and when he proceeds to hit the high note, all in all , it’s a beautiful song.

Thank you for being such an inspiration for me to do things outside my comfort zone. Thank you for being such a motivation for me to wake up every morning. Thank you for always wanting to listen to our worries and stories, ARMYs will try to do the same for you. Thank you for always wanting to create a better, safer, and happier world. Thank you for always telling us through music that we’re important, that we matter, and we’re enough. Thank you for being such amazing role models, individuals, artists who care about the world. Thank you for constantly making conscious decisions to speak up about things that matter.

Epiphany isn’t just about self-love. Jin isn’t merely advising us to accept ourselves as we are. Jin is reminding us that we are all human, and that being human entails being flawed. It serves as a reminder that self-love is a difficult thing to achieve. It’s not something we pick up on the spot. It is not something that comes naturally to us. It’s something we have to learn. It’s something we’re aware of.

Each individual has different ways to determine what an epiphany means to them. It could be a self realization of learning how to love themselves as a person, or realizing a small detail in life.

“I have many faults, and I have many more fears, but I’m going to embrace myself as hard as I can, and I’m starting to love myself gradually, just little by little. What is your name? Speak yourself. Thank you very much.

This peak of self realization and self love is what all humans should and hopefully will learn. Through our lives we learn, we love, and we have epiphanies that shapes us for who we are. But in the end we are all humans that need to love ourselves in order to make the world a better place. Speak for yourself and have that epiphany for self love. Love yourself, love yourself.
